Puntchamber F 6

The name of this room is the Punt chamber. Punt is a region southeast of Egypt, approximately in the region of modern Sudan, Eritrea and perhaps also Somalia. The ancient Egyptians imported from there aromatic resins like incense and myrrh. Representations of these myrrh and incense trees can be seen in the base (soubassement).

The accompanying texts describe the botanical characteristics of the different trees. The text has a duplicate in the so-called laboratory of the temple of Edfu, but without the representations of the trees. The two rooms to the south, F 4 and F 5, also belong to the laboratory complex. This does not mean, of course, that all the ointments and fumigations were produced in these rooms; workshops outside the temple were likely also used for this purpose.
