Colonnade L 3

The ambulatory (L1, L2, L3) surrounds the inner rooms on three sides and is, thus, unique in Egyptian temple architecture. In the base (soubassement) of the east and on the west walls, there are geographical processions, representing the Lower Egyptian nomes, i.e. those of the Delta.

On the west wall there is a unique staff bearer procession, attested only at Athribis. In the southern part of this colonnade is a monumental side entrance door. In the other large temples, like Edfu and Dendara, there is no comparable door at this place. This part of the temple is dedicated to Osiris.

Immediately to the right of this door is a very unusual ritual scene in the first register. The king shoots with bow and arrow at four donkeys, representations of Seth, the brother and murder of Osiris. Immediately to the left of this door also in the first register, are depictions of the cult objects of the temple.

On the east wall in the south there is an offering list consisting of many rectangles, and in the north there is a list of names of the cat- or lion-goddess Bastet, also consisting of many rectangles.
