Station F3

Room F 3

The upper parts of this room have been completely destroyed, a fact that enabled the investigation of the foundations. Below the lost floor was a fill of limestone flakes and some blocks, one of which had been left in situ. Why it was not used for a wall remains unclear, perhaps it was due to a flaw that made it unsuitable for its intended position. Between the layers of limestone flakes were thin sandy and muddy layers, which can be understood as walking surfaces for the workers who built the foundations. As the height of the four foundation walls increased new layers of stone flakes were filled in, on top of which came some sand and clay that were used by the workers to walk on.

The foundation platform is fully preserved. It corresponds to the 12th course of the foundations, which is unique in Egyptian temples. Whether there are further courses below remains unknown.
